Geffert, Wilkey, Johnson, Miller & Kemmer Named Max Preps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Raeanne Geffert (Seymour (Seymour, Conn.) H.S.), Kenna Wilkey (Reed-Custer (Braidwood, Ill.) H.S.), senior catcher Brianna Johnson (Marion County (Guin, Ala.) H.S.), senior pitcher Sarah Miller (Brewer (Fort Worth, Texas) H.S.) & sophomore pitcher/utility Mara Kemmer (Valley Christian (Chandler, Ariz.) H.S.) have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played over April 28-May 4.

East Region


Geffert was virtually unhittable last week from the circle for the Wildcats, allowing just two total hits, posting a 3-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, a no-hitter and 43 strikeouts over just 21 innings, while also batting 5-for-12 (.417) with five tallies, a double and three RBIs. She struck out 18 of 22 hitters she faced during a 14-0 rout of Crosby (Conn.) and no-hit Holy Cross with 11 K's in an 8-0 triumph. Thus far in 2014, Geffert possesses an 11-1 mark with a 1.02 ERA and 155 punch outs over 82 frames to go along with a .511 batting average and 14 RBIs.

North Region

Wilkey contributed at both the plate and in the circle for the Comets, tallying a 4-0 record with a 0.58 ERA and 45 strikeouts over 24.1 innings while batting .636 (7-for-11) with six runs scored. She struck out 10 or more in three of her four appearances with a high of 14 during a complete-game, 4-0 blanking of Dwight (Ill.). With her impressive effort, Wilkey improved her season pitching mark to 5-7 with a 2.41 ERA and 160 K's over 81.1 frames. She is currently batting .415 overall with 11 tallies and six RBIs.

South Region


Johnson powered the Red Raider offense last week by hitting .813 (13-for-16) with four tallies, three doubles, a HR and 10 RBIs over just four match-ups. Her finest efforts came during victories over Brilliant (Ala.) and Parrish (Ala.) as she went 5-for-5 with four RBIs in the former and 3-for-4 with a double, a HR and four RBIs in the latter. For the season Johnson is batting at a .553 clip with 18 extra-base hits, 27 runs scored and 35 RBIs.

South Central Region


Miller put up a 3-1 pitching record for the Bears with a 1.33 ERA and 19 strikeouts over 26.1 innings, while going 10-for-14 (.714) at the dish with three tallies, two doubles, three HR's and 10 RBIs over four contests. During a 14-4 rout of Burleson (Texas), she had a career game, posting a 4-for-4 day at the plate with a two-bagger, two HR's and six RBIs. Overall in 2014, Miller is hitting at a .391 clip with 20 extra-base hits and 37 RBIs in addition to a 20-7 pitching mark with a 1.33 ERA and 179 K's over 189.2 frames.

West Region

Kemmer guided the Trojans to three victories last week by hitting 7-for-11 (.636) with eight runs scored and eight thefts while recording a 3-0 pitching mark with a 0.00 ERA and 45 strikeouts in just 19 innings. Included in her impressive efforts was a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts during a 10-0 win over Salt River and a high of 16 K's in a 10-1 rout of Joy Christian. In all she punched out at least 14 hitters in each of her three appearances. For the season Kemmer is 13-3 with a 0.88 ERA and 230 strikeouts over just 96 innings. She is also hitting a remarkable .671 overall with 12 extra-base hits, 32 steals and 30 RBIs.
