Proposals to promote diversity on the Arizona Interscholastic Association's executive board and raising the fees to help keep officials are two of the big measures the legislative council will vote on during the council's annual meeting on Friday.

If the diversity proposal passes, the pool of future executive board conference nominees must consist of a female, a person of color and a male. The AIA's executive board will pick one of the three to serve on the board.  

The board should reflect the demographics of the membership of the state of Arizona, according to the rationale for proposing the diversity amendment. The goal of the proposal to raise the pay of officials is to keep officials from working non-AIA events that currently pay them more than AIA events.  

Since 2009, the AIA has seen a 21.5 persent drop in officials registration. The legislative council meets once a year to amend or adopt new bylaws. 

The council is comprised of 45 members, mostly athletic directors, who represent the AIA's five conferences.
