Hamilton's Madison Seigworth reprised her role as title-game conquerer in the circle and got a big boost from her teammates' bats Monday night in a 6A title-game rematch from last year. with Pinnacle.

Seigworth tossed a complete game with 12 strikeouts and was backed by a 10-hit, two-home run attack as #7 Hamilton made it back-to-back titles with a 7-2 triumph over top-seed Pinnacle at ASU's Farrington Stadium.

Hamiton closed out the season 30-6 and dealt Pinnacle (34-2) an especially difficult defeat in the process. The Pioneers have been the dominant team in the state all season and nationally ranked in many polls.  The loss ended a 17-game winning streak. Ironically, Pinnacle opened the season 17-0 and had that streak stopped by Hamilton with 1-0 loss in the Desert Mountain Invitationall title game.

Hamilton coach Rocky Parra said he didn't automatically hand Seigworth the ball for the start. She and Aabby Andersen compiled 10-3 records this season and Natallie Montgomery was 8-0.

"We have three good pitchers," Parra said,. "Madi had the experience ( a 3-0 title-game win last year) and playing Abby in right field made us stronger defensively. And we got Natalie in the game late with an at-bat. It all worked out."

Seigworth, a junior, threw a two-hit, 10-strkeout shutout at Pinnacle in the Desert Mountain final, but also had surrendered a big inning and a couple of home runs to the Pioneers in an early-season 9-4 loss.

Seigworth was matched with arguably the state's best pitcher in Pinnacle's Marissa Schuld. Schuld entered the game sporting a 22-0 record and 0.56 earned-run average. Seigworth and Schuld matched zeroes for three innings before Hamilton scratched out a run on Macy Simmons bloop single to center in the top of the fourth. 

Schuld allowed just four hits through the first five innings and Seigworth three so it was anybody's game as the sixth began.

Macy Simmons intervened again at that point. She lifted a majestic solo home run to left to make it 2-0 and Hamilton went on to add three more runs and four hits in the inning for a 5-0 lead.

Seigworth, who hasn't hit much at all this year, helped herself with an RBI double -- the first of three straight run-scoring hits. Nikki Gonzales and Bella Loomis added the other two.

Schuld left the cirlce after six innings having given up five runs and nine hits. Pinnacle gave itself life in the bottom of the sixth off by scoring two runs on two hits and a Hamilton error with two outs.

The momentum didn't last as Hamilton third baseman Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza got the runs back with a two-out, two-run blast to left off reliever CC Cook.  

"Pitchers can only do so much," Seigworth said. "It was nice to get the runs we did tonight. ....It's so cool to win this again."
