5A Baseball Elite 8: Campo Verde blanks Arcadia

Austin Breazeale and Jarrett Wolfe combined on a one-hit shutout Monday afternoon in leading Campo Verde to a 5-0 victory over Arcadia in the first round of the 5A elite eight baseball playoffs at Diablo Stadium.

Breazeale allowed a third-inning single to Clay Wasson and worked around three walks and five hit batters in fashioning the shutout. Breazeale hit the first batter in the last of the seventh and Wolfe came on to retire the next three hitters.

El Galvez knocked in two runs and Garret Thornton and Brayden Campbell one apiece to highlight Campo Verde's offense. Thet trio combined for seven of the Coyotes nine hits. 

Campo Verde (18-13) advances to the winners's bracket to face Chaparral on Thursday May at 6:30 at Maryvale Ball Park. Arcadia (19-10) takes on Apollo in an elimination game at 4 p.m. at Maryvale.

CHAPARRAL 9, APOLLO 6: The Firebirds (23-5-1) used a pair of big innings to subdue the Hawks (23-7)  at Diablo Stadium.

Jaco Gonzalez had two hits and drove in two runs in a five-run second inning for Chaparral. Griffin Hampton went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs with a triple in a four-run fourth inning. Hampton picked up the win working the first three innings. Rafael Nieblas (4 for 4) and Channy Ortiz drove in two runs each for Apollo.
