Pinnacle's Dixon becoming a prospect

April 27, 2017 by Mikhial Tsatskin, Arizona State University

Thans Dixon is just a sophomore at Pinnacle High School, but that hasn't kept him from starring as a dual sport threat at the school.
“He is in his first year out for track, and he has made unbelievable strides," coach Allan Kirchmeier said. "He has been apart of our 4x4 team and has decreased his time in the 100 and the 200, and he's run a 400 for us. So he makes himself available for whatever we need him for.”
Dixon primarily plays running back for the football team as well as multiple defensive positions, including linebacker and defensive end.
Before heading into offseason football training, Dixon participates in the 100, 4x4, long jump and high jump.
“No records right now, but I'm working on it,” said Dixon.
Dixon was born in Monterey, Calif. and started playing football when he was 10 before trying track this year.
Dixon participated in multiple football clubs, including the Empowerment Through Sports, a top rated youth sports program. Dixon played for the ETS all-star team, a team that scouts pay extra attention to.
Dixon has received questionnaires from Washington schools so far.
“A beast. Animal. Aggressive. He doesn't get pushed back, and I know Thans is going to get there (to the quarterback), and I just have to get there, too,” said Pinnacle defensive lineman Sam Okwuobu.
Dixon is a determined athlete who doesn't miss a practice and an opportunity to perform on the field.
He arrived for every preseason workout for track while balancing his school and weight room work.
“He has been a tremendous leader in the weight room," Kirchmeier said. "He didn't miss a day. In fact, he was the only athlete in there working out four days a week. Plus he's weight lifting in football, so he has done a tremendous job and we're very proud of him. He has a great future ahead of him."
Playing multiple sports in high school can be very difficult for many students, but Dixon has always had a strong support system, from his teammates to his parents.
“My dad's helping and my mom's been supportive, but honestly my dad (Claude) has been the most supportive because he played football back at Oregon State as a receiver, and he was pretty good,” said Dixon.
Dixon's ultimate goal is to play in college.
At this moment he has no other plans but to focus on accomplishing his goal.
He's also looking forward to potentially breaking some of Pinnacle’s school records before he gets there.
