Runs were precious Sunday as the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association all-star games wrapped up a weekend of actioat Goodyear Ballpark.

Hamilton outfielder Cameron Cruz drove in two runs to lead the Division I North squad to a 3-2 victory over the South in the early game. The Division II South used six pitchers to combine on a four-hit shutout in a 4-0 triumph over the North.

Cruz, starting for the D-I North, grounded a two-run single to left in the fourth inning to give his team at 2-0 lead. Millennium's Jared McDonald and Cruz's Hamilton teammate, Dylan Enwiller, opened the inning with singles to set the rally in motion. Cruz was named the game's MVP for his key hit.

Alhambra's Samuel Romero notched the win for the D-I North. He tossed two shutout innings and fanned two. Also contributing scoreless work for the North were Millennium's Gio Lopez, Tolleson's Carlos Baldenegro, Brophy's Chris Ashton and St. Mary's Antonio Coronado. Coronado got the final out for a save with the tying run at second. Mesa Mountain View's Brent Bailey and Enwiller had two hits apiece for the North with Bailey driving in what proved to be the game-winner with an eighth-inning single. Bailey's second hit drove in Desert Vista's Zach Hardy, who doubled. The North, which did not commit an error, turned three double plays.

Leading the effort at the plate for the D-I South was Perry second baseman Austin Bull. Bull was 3-for-3 (all singles), drove in a run and stole two bases. The South's pitching staff was outstanding with nine pitchers teaming up for 11 strikeouts and no walks. The North's three-hit, fourth inning told the tale.

D-II GAME

With a combined 10 hits in the D-II contest, South pitching and costly North miscues proved the difference for the South in its 4-0 win.Tthe South tallied runs in the seventh and eighth and two in the ninth with errors figuring in all the scoring. The North made five errors -- four in the final three innings.

Nogales right-hander Isaac Lopez nabbed the win with 1 2/3 innings of hitless-work in the sixth and and seventh. Lopez got help from five teammates -- San Luis' Jerry Ochoa and Alex Bazua, Lake Havasu's Alex Dafoe and Bobby Milacki and Tucson High's Trevelle Hill.

The game was scoreless through six innings with the teams combining for six hits to that point. A single by Arcadia's Josh Arndt ended up plating Nogales' Jacoba Somoza to break the tie. Arndt's hit skipped away from the center fielder allowing Somoza to score. Somoza reached via walk. Ironwood Ridge's Andrew Brooks (double) and Arndt (walk) scored in the ninth on a two-out, infield throwing error.

Cactus Shadows catcher Tyler Phillips was the only player on either team with two hits. He singled in the first- and third-innings.
