Thatcher's Heath Motes broke the Class 2A state record for stolen bases in a season when he swiped his 42nd bag.

He set the record Tuesday during his team's 9-7 win over Santa Rita, as Motes finished with as many stolen bases, five, as hits in Tuesday's win.

The state's all-time record for stolen bases in a season is 51. Thatcher (13-2) has seven regular season games left to play this season.

So far, Motes is 42 of 45 in stolen base attempts this season. Thatcher is a Division III baseball program, but for administrative and state record purposes, Thatcher is considered a Class 2A school.
