Sollenberger Classic notes: Big injuries, TV/radio schedule

Las Vegas --- Losing your returning leading tackler on the eve of playing the No. 1 team in the nation is a potential big blow for a Brophy team that experienced an injury plagued 2013 season.

Junior linebacker Walker Adams (134 tackles last year) suffered an injury this week. Brophy coach Scooter Molander said that Adams is a game-time decision and is awaiting the results of an MRI.

Brophy plays a loaded Bishop Gorman team, USA TODAY’S preseason No. 1 team, Friday in the opener of 9th annual Sollenberger Classic.

Reed also suffers blow

Nevada Reed, Mountain Pointe’s Saturday opponent in the Sollenberger Classic, will be without three-year starter and captain Cody Carr (6-3, 300).

The left guard tore a meniscus during a preseason camp and will be out for a couple of weeks, coach Ernie Howren said.

Mountain Pointe’s o-line better this year?

It’s hard to believe that this year’s offensive line of Mountain Pointe is better than last year.

But that’s what coach Norris Vaughan said this week. Last year’s line featured a Division I recruit, Natrell Curtis

But this year’s offensive line is by no means chopped liver. Three starters return, including the team’s only three-year starter, center Collin Lambdin, and left tackle Nick Carman (14 college offers).

The offensive line also features left guard Clayton Dry, right guard DeShaun Felder, a first time starter, and a “sleeper,” right tackle Davis Perrot (6-4, 270).
