Northern Arizona baseball clubs making waves in Tucson tournament this week

TUCSON — Garison Jones was 2 for 2 with a triple and four RBIs as Bradshaw Mountain plated 12 runs in the second inning to beat Rincon/University 15-5 during the Lancer Classic on Wednesday afternoon.

Isaiah Avila was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI for the Bears (6-6, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon), which have won four of five.

Bradshaw Mountain wraps up the tournament against Walden Grove before traveling to St. Mary’s on Monday, March 18.

4A BASEBALL: COCONINO 10, WALDEN GROVE 5

TUCSON — Junior Stone was 2 for 4 with four RBIs, Ryker Patten scored three runs and Coconino beat Walden Grove 10-5 during the Lancer Classic on Wednesday afternoon.

Connor Culwell pitched five innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out six in the win for the Panthers (7-4, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon), which have won five of seven.

4A BASEBALL: FLAGSTAFF 12, SAHUARITA 4

TUCSON — Cullen Callander had three hits, three RBIs and scored four times for Flagstaff in a 12-4 rout of Sahuarita on Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles (9-2, 4A Grand Canyon) later lost to Sahuaro in the Lancer Classic, 12-5.

Noah Huffman scored four runs, while Sam Jones was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs in the win. Will Carpenter threw seven innings of four-run baseball, allowing 11 hits and striking out five.

4A BASEBALL: BENSON 4, MINGUS 1

BENSON — Carter Wacker and Pops Godina each had two hits but Mingus managed to scratch across only one run in a 4-1 loss to Benson on Wednesday afternoon.

Wacker, Godina and Xzayvier Buckner had all five hits for the Marauders (7-5, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon), which saw the rest of the lineup go 0 for 18.

3A BASEBALL: WICKENBURG 15, BOURGADE CATHOLIC 0

PHOENIX — Landon DiCamillo was 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Erik Mayerhofer added three RBIs and Wickenburg plated six runs in the third inning to put away Bourgade Catholic 15-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Landon Hamilton allowed only one hit in four innings of work while striking out nine for the Wranglers (6-3, 2-0 3A North Central), which have won three straight.

3A BASEBALL: RIVER VALLEY 10, KINGMAN ACADEMY 9

MOHAVE VALLEY — Mickey Smith had a three-RBI triple, Hunter Koehler added three hits and River Valley slipped past Kingman Academy 10-9 on Wednesday afternoon.

Koehler was 3 for 5 with two runs scored in addition to the a pair of RBIs, while Kai Cornell was 3 for 3 with two RBIs in the win for the Dust Devils (8-4-1, 2-0 3A West), which used a five-run rally in the sixth to win their fourth game in six tries.
