Salpointe improved to 3-0 on the year after the Lancers beat Mountain View Marana 5-0 Monday at the Tucson Racquet Club. The Mountain Lions are now 1-3 on the year. The Lancers have won the last three Division II championships in a row and the team is riding an incredible 52-0 record in dual meets dating back to a semifinal loss in 2019.

Mountain View is in the fourth year of competition and the program won its last three matches last year to finish with a program-best five wins in a season. The Mountain Lions are led by head coach Mikayla Suba and her top pair includes a couple of Pima College indoor commits in seniors Maggie McReynolds and Julia Weatherbie. Reynolds has served in the top spot all four years.

Salpointe head coach Heather Moore-Martin comes with five seniors, including Sophia Hernandez and Megan Muehlebach, to replace the five seniors she had in her starting rotation last year. Muehlebach was paired with Hernadez when they were freshmen and this will be the second year on the first court for Muehlebach after she was paired with the Southern Arizona Player of the Year in Francesca Pieroni, who is now a freshman for Alaska Anchorage.

Salpointe will host Cienega (1-2) on Wednesday and Mountain View will travel to play Desert Vista (2-1) on Thursday to open up section play. The Lancers will open section play in April after the program takes part in the Cat Box Classic hosted by Ironwood Ridge on March 22 and 23.
