Salpointe junior Sydney Anderson broke 1,000 career points Tuesday night at Flowing Wells in a 65-28 victory. The win moved the Lancers to an 11-1 record in power-ranking games and 5-0 in the 4A Kino Region. The Lancers will travel to 5A Nogales (8-5) on Thursday and the team can clinch a region title over Canyon del Oro (2-13) Friday night at home but the program is obviously hoping for bigger things.

Salpointe is currently the top-ranked team in the 4A Conference and No. 3 in the Open Division behind 6A powers Xavier (13-0) and Hamilton (12-1) but the Open Division playoffs can be unforgiving as the Lancers found out last year after finishing in the quarterfinal round after winning the 4A state championship the year before.

Flowing Wells (11-4) is ranked No. 9 in the 4A Conference and No. 25 in the Open Division. The Caballeros had back-to-back runner-up finishes in the 5A Conference in 2021 and 2022 and the program made it to the Open Division first round last year before finishing in the 4A quarterfinal round. Teams that lose in the first two rounds of the Open Division are sent back to their conference state tournaments.

The loss to Salpointe should keep the program high based on power points but the team travels to No. 5 Sahuaro (12-2) on Thursday night for another difficult game. Brianna Polter scored 10 points against Salpointe on Tuesday and Jada Camacho added 7.

Allison Even led the Lancers with 13 points, Anderson had 12, Jordan Watts scored 11, Hannah Williams added 11 and Taliyah Henderson finished with nine. Anderson played her freshman and sophomore years at Ironwood Ridge and she brought 929 career points over to Salpointe. Her presence gives the Lancers one more option on an already stacked rotation.
