CAMP VERDE — Preston Power hit a scoring landmark only most high school players can dream about, tallying his 1,000th point against Pinon in the Yvonne Johnson Memorial Shootout on Wednesday night.

Power's 22 points led Show Low (9-3, 0-0 3A East) to a 65-43 win over Pinon in day one of the tournament.

"Last night in a game, he went over a 1,000 points for a high school career at Show Low. He's been a four-year varsity player, he's one of our leaders. I'm excited for him to do that," Show Low head coach James Simmons said Thursday.

The 6-foot-5 senior forward is averaging 19.3 points per game. He scored 21 in an 84-70 loss to Camp Verde on Thursday, but was very optimistic about his club's chances of winning a 3A East title this season.

"Our region is tough, it's always a battle every year. There's no telling who will win it," Power said.

Powers currently has 1,024 points heading into Thursday night's third place game against Parker.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
