Canyon del Oro moved to 4-2 in power-ranking matches after the Dorados beat Mica Mountain 2-0 at home Tuesday night. The Thunderbolts are now 6-1 as the team enters a month-long break before opening up region play at Rio Rico (3-1) on Jan. 17.

The Dorados were led by sophomore midfielder Zoey Gist, who scored on a breakaway in the 15th minute down the left side and again in the 33rd in a mixer on the right side of the goal with an assist from Sarah Teruel. Gist has 14 goals on the year now which puts her in the top four for the 4A Conference. Kjngman forward Sophia Fottrell has 20 goals, Walden Grove forward Vivien Villarreal has 17 and Walden Grove forward Milana Eyrich has 15.

The Thunderbolts finished with 11 shots to eight from the Dorados but the team couldn’t find the net despite numerous opportunities down the stretch. The Dorados will also take a break before hosting Marana (2-1) on Jan. 10. The first set of AIA power-rankings will be released on Jan. 9 and the region champions in the 4A Conference will host a play-in game on Feb. 8 if the team fails to make the top eight.
