Coming off a 44-43 gut-wrenching loss to Kellis last week, Trevor G Browne will look to recover as it begins conference play against Camelback on Friday, Sept. 29.

Trevor G. Browne (1-4) has lost four games in a row, its main problems being tackling and inconsistencies with the offense. The Bruins hope to get back in the win column against the Spartans (1-4).

“Last game, it was awesome to see offense come to life,” said Trevor G. Browne head coach Francisco Rangel. “They scored 20 unanswered and showed life to force overtime.”

These two teams last played each other in the 2017-2018 season. The Bruins got the best of the Spartans 29-27. Both the Bruins and the Spartans finished that year 3-7, 1-4.

The Spartans will make it hard for the Bruins defense as they are averaging about 260 yards per game. The Spartans high-powered offense is led by senior quarterback Rocco Mortensen.

Rangel acknowledged how dangerous of an offensive team the Spartans can be, but still instilled some confidence into his squad.

“They have kids that can make plays, they have some of the fastest players in all of Arizona,” Rangel said. “We still feel like we can take them. Other than Casteel, all the other schools we feel like are on our level.”

The Bruins' defense can make it hard for the Spartans’ offense to produce by pressuring the quarterback and making Mortensen uncomfortable from the first snap. The Bruins are averaging 2.2 sacks per game. The Bruins pass rush is led by junior defensive lineman Raevonta Hill.

Trevor G. Browne defensive line coach James Bagley has shown that his group is ready for conference play.

“Camelback has some tendencies we will need to adjust to,” Bagley said. “Once our guys adjust and stay consistent, I have no doubt we will be able to make a big impact as conference play goes on.”

Going back to the other side of the ball for the Bruins, they are only averaging 160 yards a game. Their offense is led by senior quarterback Andrew Romero, who is the Bruins total yards per game leader.

“I feel a little disappointed on how we are on how our season has gone going into this game,” Romero said. “We are looking to turn it around with the talent we have.”

Last season the Bruins started 5-0 and finished 5-5. Three of their five losses were to teams in their conference. The Bruins plan on getting off to a hot start going into conference play this season, by beating Camelback and starting 1-0 in conference play.

“Our players and coaching staff are pretty optimistic that we can beat these sister schools,” Rangel said.

Friday’s game begins at 7 p.m. at Bill Mitton Stadium in Phoenix.
