Week 6 Wrap: Mohave football runs its streak to 6-0 after 40-6 win over Lee Williams

BULLHEAD CITY — Joe Yoney Jr. and Tanner Maynes each had two rushing touchdowns and Mohave ran its undefeated streak to six games with a 40-6 win over Lee Williams on Friday night.

The Thunderbirds (6-0, 1-0 3A West) have allowed only six points in their last three contests, outscoring their opponents 125-6.

Mohave used a 26-point third quarter to put away Lee Williams, which was a perfect 4-0 until the loss.

Yoney completed 7 of 13 passes for 66 yards and a touchdown, but ran 19 times for 145 yards and two scores. Maynes recorded 102 yards on the ground in 21 carries.

Lee Williams quarterback Noah Petrauschke completed 9 of 23 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown.

With the 3A power point rankings making their debut Tuesday, Sept. 26, Mohave is ranked No. 1.

The Volunteers (4-1, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon) host Prescott on Thursday, Sept. 28. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Mohave travels to Chino Valley on Thursday with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

PRESCOTT 42, COMBS 0

SAN TAN VALLEY — Uriah Tenette threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in a 42-0 shutout victory for Prescott over Combs on Friday night.

Tenette completed 7 of 9 passes for 131 yards, while rushing seven times for 55 yards in the win for the Badgers (2-3, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon), which had lost three straight before Friday night’s win.

Josiah Peoples and Wyatt Rewerts each had an interception in the shutout victory for Prescott.

The Badgers open 4A Grand Canyon region play this week with a road trip to Lee Williams on Thursday, Sept. 28. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

FLAGSTAFF 35, COPPER CANYON 6

GLENDALE — Chase Brown completed 10 of 14 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns to lead Flagstaff over Copper Canyon 35-6 on Friday night.

Jadon Wetzel had 146 yards rushing on 13 carries and one score for the Eagles (2-3, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon), which have now won two straight after starting the season 0-3.

Flagstaff welcomes Mingus on Friday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Copper Canyon (1-4, 0-0 4A Copper Sky) will host Washington at 7 p.m.

SNOWFLAKE 36, GILBERT 7

GILBERT — Kanton Turley ran for 106 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns, Brennan Bryant threw for two and Snowflake rebounded from an 0-2 start with a 36-7 win over Gilbert on Friday night.

The Lobos (2-2, 0-0 4A East Sky) lost to ALA-Gilbert North 28-14 in the 4A title game a season ago, but won back-to-back 3A state titles in 2021 (10-3 win over Yuma Catholic) and 2020 (38-14 win over Yuma Catholic).

Bryant completed 11 of 23 passes for 174 yards and the two touchdowns, while Karter Raban ran 14 times for 113 yards next to Turley.

Snowflake hosts Seton Catholic on Friday, Sept. 29, 7 p.m. Gilbert (2-3, 0-0 5A San Tan) heads to Sunnyslope.

MINGUS 26, DEER VALLEY 13

COTTONWOOD — Mikey Grijalva, Isaac Sena, Reighns Stokes and Rylan Ralston each had a score as Mingus celebrated Homecoming with a 26-13 win over Deer Valley on Friday night.

Grijalva racked up 126 yards rushing on 16 carries for the Marauders (3-2, 0-0 4A Grand Canyon), which have now won three straight after starting 0-2 to begin the 2023 campaign.

Deer Valley quarterback Dylan English completed 18 of 31 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns, but offensively were held to just 17 yards on the ground in the loss.

Mingus is set to travel north to Flagstaff on Friday, Sept. 29, with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Skyhawks (2-3, 0-0 4A Copper Sky) are scheduled to host Alhambra at 7 p.m.

RIVER VALLEY 45, GANADO 7

GANADO — Jayden Plotkin ran for 241 yards and three touchdowns to lead River Valley past Ganado 45-7 on Friday night.

It is the third straight win for the Dust Devils (5-1, 1-0 3A West), which have three of their final four games at home. The only road test will come at Mohave on Oct. 20, which is currently undefeated at 6-0.

With the debut of the 2023 power rankings in 3A on Tuesday, Sept. 26, River Valley is ranked No. 9.

River Valley will host Kingman on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Ganado (2-3, 0-1 3A North) will travel to Page on Friday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.

BAGDAD 36, MOHAVE ACCELERATED 6

BULLHEAD CITY — Ezrah Aguilar completed 10 of 24 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown to lead Bagdad past Mohave Accelerated 36-6 on Friday night.

Aguilar also ran 12 times for 65 yards and a score for the Sultans (5-1, 2-0 1A West), which has won four straight since their 32-7 loss to Hayden back on Aug. 25. The Lobos and Bagdad are ranked No. 1, and No. 2, respectively, in the 1A state power point rankings.

Bagdad is scheduled to host No. 3 Salome on Friday, Sept. 29. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
