Angelo Paffumi, a varsity assistant the past 13 seasons at Gilbert and Desert Ridge high schools, is set to become the new football coach at Skyline High School pending Mesa governing board approval at its March 27 meeting.

Paffumi's name was added on Monday to personnel request documents for certificated employees which have been submitted to the governing board for the Tuesday meeting. Paffumi has been a varsity coach at Gilbert High under Jesse Parker for 10 seasons (1999-2008) and spent the last three under Jeremy Hathcock at Desert Ridge. Prior to that he served five seasons at Apache Junction High, his alma mater.

He  was head freshman coach one season, head junior varsity coach one season and a varsity assistant for three seasons at Apache Junction (1994-98). Paffumi is a 1987 graduate of Apache Junction  where he played football and baseball.
