St. Mary’s beat Greenway, 41-14, at home on Friday.

The Knights (6-2), which extended their win streak to four games, have an average 23-point victory margin.

“The spirit is definitely high, especially with those wins being regional games. We want to continue playing at this standard,” St. Mary's junior tight end Paulo Gonzalez said.

The Demons have fallen to 1-7.

Although there's a vast difference in their record, the Knights knew that they had to stay focused entering this game.

“We have a high standard of play. We look to play at that standard no matter the opponent,” St. Mary's senior quarterback David Galindo said.

The Knights started the game with a bang. On only the third play of the game, senior P.J. Lewis scored a 45-yard touchdown to give the Knights a touchdown lead.

Their defense started lightning-quick. Sophomore Bobby Lewis forced a fumble and recovered it on the Demons' first offensive drive of the game.St. Mary’s took advantage of the turnover and quickly scored. Bobby Lewis flashed again as he rushed for a two-yard TD to go up 14-0.

The Demons trotted out for their second drive and quickly turned the ball over again when Greenway quarterback Connor Berg threw an interception to cornerback Chris Horn ll.

St. Mary's controlled the line of scrimmage as P.J. Lewis rushed for another touchdown to extend their lead to 20 points. He ended the night with four total touchdowns as he was the leading rusher for St. Mary’s.

The first half was dominated by the Knights as they went on to score three more times and had a 41-point lead at halftime. But the second half was a different story as Greenway scored 14 straight points.

The comeback was too little too late though as the Knights gained their sixth win of the season.

The Knights have some big games coming up as they inch closer to the playoffs.

“We have some big games coming up. There is no time to get comfortable because we have big football games if we want to make the playoffs,” St. Mary's head coach Jose Lucero said.
