Trio of Pitchers named NFCA MaxPreps Players of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The MaxPreps player of the week returns as the 2012 spring high school softball seasons get underway in the South, South Central and West Regions. Senior Jackie Aguilar of Bourgade Catholic (Phoenix, Ariz.) High School, and juniors Stephanie Adkins of Timber Creek (Orlando, Fla.) High School and Katlyn Holmes of Gunter (Gunter, Texas) High School have been named the High School Players of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through March 2, 2012.

Representing the West Region, Aguilar pitched three shut-outs in one week. She struck out 45 while yielding only 7 hits and 1 walk in 19 innings pitched. The senior was equally strong offensively, going 8 for 11 with 4 doubles, 3 runs scored and 7 RBI. Her efforts have helped the Golden Eagles get off to a 4-0-1 start this season.

In the South Region, Adkins threw 16 1/3 innings allowing only 4 hits with 16 strikeouts, finishing the week with a 0.00 ERA. In the game against Colonial High School (Fla.) she combined for a no hitter. So far this season the junior has held opposing hitters to a .158 batting average while striking out 30 in 34.1 innings pitched. Her efforts in the circle this week improved the Wolves record to 6-1.

Holmes represents the South Central Region this week, as she led the Region with a 5-1 record and a .27 ERA. The junior struck out 58 of the 107 batters she faced. On the year the junior hurler is hitting .651 with a 1.186 slugging and 28 RBI. Her efforts helped the 9th ranked Tigers improve to 12-1 on the season.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week's award. The NFCA High School Players of the Week, one for each high school region, will be announced by the Association on www.nfca.org every Monday during the spring season.
