On Thursday, April 15th, the Chandler Prep Titans hosted the Miami Vandals and secured a decisive victory with a final score of 16-6. The game was mercy ruled after four-and-a-half innings of play.

The Vandals had an effective offense, averaging 2.6 hits an inning and scoring two runs in the top of the first, the third, and the fifth. Batting first in these three innings was freshman pitcher for Miami Gabby Gonzales, who was key for the Vandals offense in reaching base on every at bat. The bottom of the lineup, however, struggled on Thursday against Chandler Prep’s junior pitcher Lois Brodnik who either struck out or fielded contact for the last three batters in the second and fourth innings.

The explosive Titan offense provided a cushion for Chandler Prep in the first inning. Twelve batters came to the plate and the Titans scored nine runs in the frame, including a big homerun from Sophomore Allison Li. Coach Mark Brodnik spoke about the effects of being able to play more of their bench due to the lead:

“I think the players—the starters—appreciate being able to get the bench in. The team is really bonding well. They know who’s good and who’s not as good so if they can get ahead, they enjoy seeing somebody get a chance to get an at-bat.”

Chandler Prep played a tough game against Superior Jr./Sr. on Friday, April 16th and came away with the 10-9 victory. The Titans play their next game at home against the Eagles of NFL Yet HS on April 20th at 7:00pm. Titan Up.
