Williams, Mink, Davis, Hensley & Smith Named Max Preps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore pitcher Nicole Williams St. Joseph (Trumbull, Conn.) H.S.), senior utility player Kellie Mink (Cascade (Clayton, Ind.) H.S.), senior pitcher/shortstop Sarah Davis (Williams (Burlington, N.C.) H.S.), junior pitcher/outfielder Megan Hensley (Ashland Blazer (Ashland, Ky.) H.S.) and senior third baseman/pitcher Kelsey Smith (Empire (Tucson, Ariz.) H.S.) have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played over April 14-20.

East Region


Williams helped lead the Cadets to an unbeaten week by going 3-0 from the circle with a 0.00 ERA and 24 strikeouts over just 16 innings of work while also batting .444 (4-for-9) with four runs scored, a HR and three RBIs. She struck out 12 during a two-hit, 10-0 shutout of Warde (Conn.) and was 2-for-4 with a HR and three RBIs in a 13-2 triumph over Stamford (Conn.). She is currently hitting at a .368 clip with a double, a HR and four RBIs, while also in possession of a 7-0 pitching mark, a 0.50 ERA and 38 K's in 28 innings.

North Region

Mink hit at a .667 (12-for-18) pace last week with eight tallies, three doubles, three HR's and 13 RBIs, while also contributing a 3-0 pitching record, a 0.68 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 20.2 innings. She registered a trio of three-RBI efforts, led by a 4-for-4 day performance at the plate with two runs scored, a two-bagger and four RBIs during a 9-0 rout of Owen Valley (Ind.). For the season Mink is batting .542 with six extra-base hits and 14 RBIs, while owning the 3-0 mark with a 1.15 ERA and 33 K's over 24.1 frames.

South Region

Davis was a force both at the plate and in the circle for the Bulldogs, tossing a pair of no-hitters as part of a 3-0 week with a 0.00 ERA and 36 strikeouts over just 15 frames, while hitting .800 (8-for-10) with seven tallies, a double, a HR and five RBIs. Her finest effort came on her "Senior Night" as she went 3-for-3 at the dish with two extra-base hits and four RBIs, while also striking out 11 during a 10-0, no-hit victory over River Mill Academy (N.C.). Davis is 13-2 overall for the season with 181 K's over 108 innings and is batting .640 with 14 RBIs.

South Central Region

Hensley guided the Tomcats by registering a .533 (8-for-15) batting average to go along with six runs scored, two doubles, three HR's and 11 RBIs, while also earning four wins in the circle with two no-hitters, a 0.68 ERA and a staggering 61 strikeouts over 31 innings. She struck out at least 13 in four of her five appearances, with a high of 17 during a two-hit, 1-0 shutout of East Carter (Ky.), and was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a HR and five RBIs in a 16-0 romp over Portsmouth West (Ohio). She is batting at a .565 clip for the year with 13 extra-base hits and 24 RBIs, while in possession of an 11-1 record, a 0.54 ERA and 147 K's in 78 frames.

West Region

Smith hit at an amazing .917 (11-for-12) clip last week with eight tallies, two doubles, a triple, five HR's and 13 RBIs while also posting a 2-0 pitching mark with a 0.00 ERA and eight K's over 12 innings. Her finest performance came during an 11-0 rout of Sahuarita (Ariz.) as she went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored, three HR's and six RBIs. For the year Smith owns a .506 batting average with nine two-baggers, three triples, 13 HR's and 60 RBIs and is 12-1 from the circle with a 1.62 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 69 innings.

During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
