White, Holland, and Lawton as MaxPreps/NFCA National H.S. Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Morgan White (Forest (Ocala, Fla.) H.S.), freshman pitcher/first baseman Rachel Holland (Pearce (Richardson, Texas) H.S.) and junior infielder Jaymee Lawton (Desert Edge (Goodyear, Ariz.) H.S.) have been selected as the MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played over Feb. 24-March 2.

South Region

White led the Wildcats to an unbeaten week by posting a 4-0 pitching record with a 0.00 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 24 innings of work while also batting at a .600 clip (6-for-10) with four doubles and four RBIs. Perhaps her most impressive overall effort for the week was a 16-strikeout performance, while going 2-for-3 at the dish with two doubles and a RBI, during a 10-2 victory over Dunnellon (Fla.). She also K'ed 11 over six frames versus Lake Minneola (Fla.) and 12 in a two-hit shutout of Crystal River (Fla.). For the year White is 10-0 with a 0.42 ERA and 120 strikeouts over 66 frames, while batting .292 with four doubles, one HR and seven RBIs.

South Central Region

In helping the Mustangs to seven straight wins this past week, Holland hit at a staggering .786 clip (11-for-14) with nine runs scored, four walks, four doubles, two HR's and 13 RBIs, while also registering a 4-0 pitching mark with a 0.00 ERA and 37 K's over 18 innings. The rookie hit safely in all seven contests, registered three RBIs in each of a trio of match-ups and allowed just three total hits from the circle. She possesses a perfect 7-0 record with a miniscule 0.24 ERA and 69 strikeouts over just 29 frames of work and is hitting .839 with eight two-baggers, two triples, two HR's and 25 RBIs for 13-0 Pearce H.S.

West Region


During the first three match-ups of the 2014 campaign for the Scorpions, Lawton batted an even .700 (7-for-10) with eight tallies, two doubles, a triple, three HR's and 13 RBIs. In an 18-0 rout of Cesar Chavez (Ariz.), she went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, two HR's and four RBIs. During a 13-0 victory over Tolleson (Ariz.), Lawton was even more impressive, posting a 3-for-4 docket with a two-bagger, a HR and six RBIs.

The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week will be announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions (if there are enough nominations to consider). During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
