Monarch Sports has brought a summer boys basketball tournament (Summer Primetime) to allow fans to beat the heat and preview some of the top teams for the coming season in recent years. This year the girls are getting a shot.

Monarch Sports and Cloud 9 are sponsoring the inaugural Lady X (Extravaganza) on Friday (June 13) and Saturday (June 14) with all games at Tempe High. The field is comprised of eight quality teams, all of whom had strong seasons last year and are traditionally solid. 

The No. 1 seed is Millennium, No. 2 Dobson, No. 3 Hamilton, No. 4 Highland , No. 5 Seton Catholic, No. 6 Mesquite, No. 7 Mountain Pointe and No. 8 Valley Christian. Seven of the eight teams reached the quarterfinals or better of their respective state tournaments. Hamilton and Dobson reached the Division I semifinals last year. Seton won the D-II title and Valley Christian was the D-III runner-up.

Here is the schedule for Friday. Each team starts with an exhibition contest. The 5 p.m. games are Millennium vs. Mesquite and Hamilton vs. Valley Christian. The 6 p.m. games match Highland and Mountain Pointe and Dobson and Seton.

Bracket play begins at 7 p.m. with #8 Valley Christian vs. #1 Millennium and #6 Mesquite vs. #3 Hamilton. The 8 p.m. first-rounders are #5 Seton vs. #4 Highland and #7 Mountain Pointe vs. #2 Dobson.

Winners and losers bracket semfinals are Saturday morning. The losers bracket games are at 10 a.m. and winners bracket games at 11 a.m. Consolation games are at noon with the championship- and third-place games at 1 p.m.
