Basha's girls basketball team closed the 2013 portion of the season with a 5-0 run and returned from San Diego with the NAIA bracket title in the So Cal Holiday Classic. Leading the way were senior Haley Pryor, the bracket MVP,  junior Christine Orr, CJ Galvan and Samirah Miller.

The Lady Bears have added a couple wins this week to bump their record to 11-4 overall, perhaps on their way to the best season of four under coach Rich Meseroll. A couple of key games interspersed the next 12 days will shed light on the team's improvement/readiness for Division I postseason.

Games on Jan. 17 at home vs. Hamilton and Jan. 21 on the road at Mesquite will be a good barometer as will contests the final week vs. Chandler and Highland. Basha has dropped a couple games to solid teams in D-I (Mountain Pointe) and D-II (Marcos de Niza). It also has a win over a good D-II club in Ironwood Ridge. Basha is currently No. 10 in D-I power rankings. Mountain Pointe is No. 8. Marcos de Niza and Ironwood Ridge are in the top 10 in D-II power rankings.
