Campo Verde B-G, Basha G, Chavez B reach Dobson soccer final

Campo Verde's boys and girls soccer teams will spend part of New Year's Eve Day at Dobson High School. Both advanced to Monday's (Dec. 31) championship games of the 2012 Dobson Mustang Classic with semifinal wins on Saturday (Dec. 29).

For Campo Verde's boys, Samuel Gleadle's second goal of the game in the 75th minute lifted the Coyotes to a 2-1 victory over Dobson in one of four semifinal matches played at Red Mountain Soccer Complex. Gleadle scored his other goal on a free kick in the 10th minute. Dobson evened the score less than a minute into the second half on a goal by Marlon Bonilla (assist to Glen Asare). Campo Verde plays Cesar Chavez for the boys title on Monday at 10 a.m. at Dobson High. Chavez edged Perry, 4-3.Chavez got a hat trick from junior Sergio Alcaraz, including the game winner in the 77th minute. The teams alternated goals with Chavez scoring first and Perry answering each time except the final tally. Perry's Niyi Soetan scored twice and assisted on the Pumas' second goal (scored by Josh Lovato). 

Campo Verde's girls got a goal and two assists from Lauren Crenshaw in defeating Mesa Mountain View, 3-1, in its semifinal. Alissa Carrol and Breanna Olsen also scored goals for Campo Verde and Meg McDowell added an assist. Hailey Adams scored Mountain View's goal in the second half. Basha opposes Campo Verde in the girls final Monday at noon at Dobson High. Basha got goals from Jazmarie Mader, Kaitlyn Parsons and Destini Soares and two assists from Destini Decker in blanking Mesa High, 3-0, in the other semi. Mesa had beaten Basha earlier in the tournament and won its own Jackrabbit Invitational a week prior.
