Div I Playoffs: Red Mountain vs. Mountain Pointe

November 14, 2013 by Game Previews, AZPreps365

The top-seeded Mountain Pointe Pride (11-0), the 2012 state runner-up in Division I, will continue their quest for a 2013 state title when they host the ninth-seeded Red Mountain Mountain Lions Friday night in Tempe. The undefeated Pride easily dispatched #16 seed Boulder Creek last week 55-7 in their first round matchup. Mountain Pointe is averaging over seven touchdowns per game and is led by the three-headed rushing attack of Paul Lucas, Wesley Payne, and Brandyn Leonard, each of whom has rushed for over 500 yards this season. The Mountain Lions (6-5) defeated eighth-seeded Highland on the road last week 34-7 to advance to the quarterfinals. They utilize two quarterbacks in Caleb Murray-Thomas and Brennen Dobson, each of whom have passed for over 1,000 yards this year, and are hoping to improve on its quarterfinal berth in last year's playoffs. Game time is set for 7pm.
