State badminton singles, doubles take center stage

It will be badminton’s turn to take the spotlight with singles and doubles championships on Friday (Oct. 12) and Saturday (Oct. 13) at Glendale Independence High.

Singles champ Jessica Michael of Phoenix Xavier Prep graduated, so that portion of the competition would appear to be wide open.

Scottsdale Chaparral has two top returnees -- Courtney Foltz and Kristin Hillman.

Xavier is the defending team champion, and team competition begins next week. First-round matches will be on Monday (Oct. 15) at the highest seeds, with semifinals and finals on Wednesday (Oct. 17) and Thursday (Oct. 18), respectively, at Phoenix Sunnyslope.
