Chandler ends No. 24 Hamilton's 64-game home win streak

Maybe it all came too fast for the Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) football team. No, not the national ranking or attention it received after stopping defending state champion Mountain Pointe's 19-game win streak last week.

But maybe its game with Chandler (Ariz.) just came up too fast, because No. 24 Hamilton didn't just get beat Thursday night, it was soundly defeated 56-24.

Thanks largely to a monster game from quarterback Bryce Perkins, who threw for six touchdowns and ran for another, Chandler snapped Hamilton's 64-game home win streak.

Justin Jan had three touchdown catches in the first half alone as Chandler raced to a 31-0 lead and was really never threatened. His last TD catch was a 55-yarder from Perkins.

Chase Lucas opened the scoring with a 1-yard run before Perkins and Jan connected for the first time, a 15-yard scoring strike to make it 14-0 midway through the first quarter. A 10-yard Perkins to Jan TD pass made it 21-0, before a 30-yard field goal made it 24-0.

Kyeler Burke scored on a 5-yard touchdown run for Hamilton right before the halftime to make it 31-7, and perhaps give the home team some life.

But Perkins fired his fourth scoring pass, this one to Kolby Taylor, and the game was essentially done.

Hamilton quarterback James Sosinski cut the lead to 37-14 with an 8-yard run, but Perkins put this one completely away with an 85-yard strike to Lucas early in the fourth quarter.

Perkins added a fourth TD pass to Jan – his sixth overall – then scored on a 20-yard run to make his dream night complete.

Chandler (5-1), of course, is no slouch. It lost a 45-42 heartbreaker to Mountain Pointe (Phoenix) on Sept. 19 to fall from the Xcellent 25. It rebounded with a 49-6 win over Cesar Chavez (Laveen) before Thursday's big win.

So, the big question now: Who is No. 1 in Arizona? Mountain Pointe beat Chandler, which beat Hamilton, which beat Mountain Pointe. All three teams are 5-1.
