Hamilton's newcomers on offense already making noise

All it took was eight quarters for Hamilton’s new offensive starters to start making a name for themselves.

The Huskies only returned two offensive starters this year, but that didn’t keep the perennial favorite from scoring 84 points in its first two games. The defense, which has allowed only one touchdown, isn’t too shabby either.

But with the defensive line Hamilton carries, opponents already knew that scoring against the Huskies would be tough this year. What new offensive weapons were in Hamilton’s arsenal this year?

That was the unknown. But the names are beginning to emerge.

Just ask Brophy, which was burned by three long touchdown plays by Hamilton Friday during the 41-6 defeat at Phoenix College, Brophy’s home away from home.

“I think we have a lot of weapons this year,” Hamilton coach Steve Belles said. “(Wide receiver) Ian Anderson. Everybody knows (running back) Kyeler Burke. (Running back) Rashad Williams. (Running back) Rico Tipton. (Running back) Ari Johnson. So that’s just to name a few. We didn’t have this depth last year, and all of those guys are contributing. And they care about each other, and that’s a big point to why we are doing well so early.”

Burke (120 receiving yards, 46 rushing yards) helped break the game open toward the end of the first half when he caught a pass over the middle from James Sosinski and sprinted all the way to the end zone to complete the school record 98-yard pass play.

Tipton didn’t break free until the third and did so in a big way, scoring on an 80-yard touchdown of his own to help put Hamilton up 27-3. Yet another weapon, senior wide receiver Brandon Krcilek, caught a 47-yard touchdown from Sosinski in the third quarter.

Belles is scheduled to be interviewed at 9:30 a.m. during the AZPreps365 Saturday radio show on 98.7 FM to talk more about his team’s Friday performance and next week’s big game against Pinnacle.
