With nearly a 20 percent turnover in head coaches state wide for the 2014 prep football season, 40 percent of those managed to prevail in their debut.

Forty eight schools across all divisions trotted out new bosses and the final tally was 19 wins and 29 defeats. That comes out to a .400 winning percentage for coaches changing color schemes. Schools with new coaches that opened with a victory were:  Amphitheater, Apache Junction, Basha, Boulder Creek, Buckeye, Cactus Shadows, Corona del Sol, Flagstaff, Gila Ridge, Kofa, Marcos de Niza, Mesa High, Paradise Valley, Phoenix Christian, Rio Rico, River Valley, Santa Rita, Westview and Wickenburg.

Former Mesa High coach Kelley Moore took over at Buckeye and won his debut vs. Vista Grande as did his successor at Mesa, Scott Hare. The  Jackrabbits toppled Dobson. Greg Davis, who left Paradise Valley for Cactus Shadows, piloted the Trojans to a romp over Camelback as did Davis'  Cactus Shadows successor, Mike Hudnutt. Cactus Shadows blanked Raymond Kellis in a big way.
