Tucson's Morales joins aia365

August 4, 2014 by Jose Garcia, AZPreps365

As a teacher and volunteer youth sports writer, Andy Morales is a servant leader in Tucson.

Starting the 2014-15 school year, Morales will share his passion for covering high schools sports in Tucson and southern Arizona schools with aia365.com as its newest staff writer. Morales’ youth sports writing interest was sparked after his hero, his father Hector, learned about some of the benefits of playing club sports.

Concerned that some couldn’t afford to reap the benefits of club sports, Hector, a former Tucson city council member and community director who worked for the administrations of Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, wanted to start a scouting service for underprivileged young athletes. Hector passed away before he could achieve this, but Morales picked up the ball, writing about young athletes for a web site pro bono.

Besides his duties as a staff writer for aia365.com, allsportstucson.com and PE and special education teacher, Morales said he is also grateful to have a family (daughters Arianna, Brittney, Maggie and wife Jane) that is willing to share him with the Tucson community.

“There are too many stories to be told,” Morales said.
