Arizona Junior Sun Belt baseball team getting hot

The Arizona Junior Sun Belt Team is on a roll after dropping its first two games of 10 in a week-long fray in the annual Sun Belt Classic in McAlestar, Okla.

Team Arizona notched its third consecutive victory Sunday (June 8) with an 8-0 triumph over Team Oklahoma Blue. Arizona is 3-2 in the tournament. The Sun Belt team is comprised of teams from several states stakled with high school-seniors to-be.

Standouts so far for Team Arizona are Horizon's Matt Kroon. Kroon, a third baseman, is 6-for-15 (.400) with two homers and eight RBI. Kroon slammed both homers in the same game and one was a grand slam. Fountain Hills Devin Foyle is 5-for-11 (.455) with a home run and seven RBI. Perry infielder Austin Bull has has been hot, going 5-for-9 (.556).

Queen Creek's Josh Andrews, Greenway's Zach McLeod and Mountain Ridge's Justin Revels have started and won games. McLeod allowed two hits, no runs and struck out eight in six innings in a win over Oklahoma Blue; Andrews gave up five hits, two runs and struck out seven in beating Team Colorado; Revels surrendered four hits and no runs in four innings in a whitewash of Team Canada. Team Arizona plays again Monday June 9) afternoon against Team Mississippi.

Teams from eight states and Canada are competing. Standings through Sunday's games: Texas 4-0, Georgia 3-1, Oklahoma Gold 3-1, Tennessee 3-1, Arizona 3-2, Oklahoma Blue 2-3, Canada 1-3, Mississippi 1-3, Colorado 1-3 and Missouri 0-4.
